Albumet Systerspel kuratert av Benedicte Maurseth, er meint som ein oppfølgjar til samlealbumet Meisterspel frå 1997 utgjeve på Heilo. Albumet Meisterspel vart den gong utgjeve i samband med boka Hardingfela, og inneheldt slåttespel framført av tjuetre ulike felespelarar, men der diverre ingen av dei utvalde utøvarane var kvinner.
Albumet Systerspel gjev denne gong plassen til spelekvinnene, og inneheld tidlegare utgjevne innspelingar med alt frå Kristiane Lund frå 1919, den fyrste spelekvinna som spelte inn hardingfele på grammofonplater, til Helga Myhr og hennar solo-album frå 2020. I tillegg kjem ei rekkje andre meisterspelarar som Signe Flatin Neset, Mari Eggen, Annbjørg Lien, Susanne Lundeng, Britt Pernille Frøholm med fleire.

Benedicte Maurseth, hardingfelespelar, komponist og forfattar, er ein etablert og anerkjend utøvar frå Eidfjord i Hardanger. Ho har gått i lære hjå meisterspelemannen Knut Hamre gjennom fleire tiår, og har turnert i omfattande grad som solist i Norge og internasjonalt. Ho samarbeidd med mange av dei framste kunstnarar på tvers av sjangrar som Nils Økland, Marilyn Crispell, Rolf Lislevand, Jon Fosse og Anne Marit Jacobsen. Maurseth har fleire tingingsverk bak seg, mellom anna for teater, film, og fleire album. For verket Tidekverv, uroppført i 2017, vart ho tildelt NOPA sin musikkpris, og hennar spesialskrivne song «Very full» for Marvel Studio i Hollywood til TV-serien Loki, kom mellom anna høgt på Billboard-lista. Maurseth har òg spelt inn fleire album for Grappa Musikkforlag (Hubro & Heilo) og ECM Records, og har i tillegg gjeve ut bøker, artiklar og essay. Hennar siste album Hárr vart nyleg tildelt den prestisjetunge prisen Nordic Music Prize for 2022.

The album "Systerspel," curated by Benedicte Maurseth, is intended as a follow-up to the compilation album "Meisterspel" from 1997 released on Heilo. The album "Meisterspel" was released in connection with the book "Hardingfela" and featured tunes performed by twenty-three different fiddlers, but unfortunately, none of the selected performers were women.
The album "Systerspel" this time focuses on female fiddlers and includes previously released recordings ranging from Kristiane Lund in 1919, the first female fiddler to record hardanger fiddle on phonograph records, to Helga Myhr and her solo album from 2020. Additionally, it features a range of other master fiddlers such as Signe Flatin Neset, Mari Eggen, Annbjørg Lien, Susanne Lundeng, Britt Pernille Frøholm, among others.

Benedicte Maurseth, a hardanger fiddle player, composer, and author, is an established and recognized performer from Eidfjord in Hardanger. She has apprenticed with master fiddler Knut Hamre for several decades and has extensively toured as a soloist in Norway and internationally. She has collaborated with many leading artists across genres, including Nils Økland, Marilyn Crispell, Rolf Lislevand, Jon Fosse, and Anne Marit Jacobsen. Maurseth has several commissioned works to her credit, including for theater, film, and multiple albums. She was awarded NOPA's music prize for the composition "Tidekverv" premiered in 2017, and her specially written song "Very full" for Marvel Studios in Hollywood for the TV series Loki ranked high on the Billboard chart. Maurseth has recorded several albums for Grappa Musikkforlag (Hubro & Heilo) and ECM Records and has also published books, articles, and essays.
